An operation that removes, through water outflow, sediments, stones and other materials accumulated at the entrance of the installation. Water intake purges occur suddenly, when the normal operation of an installation is threatened. They cause a very sudden increase of the flow (up to 30 m3/s) in the watercourses downstream, sometimes for many kilometres.
